Mapnificent: public transport travel time maps
Stefan Wehrmeyer is the developer of Mapnificent, a site that shows how it is possible to travel on public transportation for over 20 cities throughout the world. The application interface provides a slider control to adjust maximum travel time. As the slider is adjusted, the highlighted area on the map showing travel range expands and contracts. The visual feedback is impressively fast.
Mapnificent also includes a JavaScript API that lets you integrate a Mapnificent overlay into your Google Maps application.
Mapnificent uses public GTFS from the GTFS Data Exchange.

This is a beautiful implementation, especially for homehunting situations, but the travel time estimates struck me as way too rosy here in Portland, presumably because of low-frequency buses. Worth checking out, but not ultimately that useful unless he can get fewer false positives in the 7-12 minute range.
Er, poorly phrased. Unless he can get fewer false positives that are too optimistic by 7-12 minutes.
